Today (31-08-2010) , in Mattayom 1 we discussed how you get started with the Moodle Learning Centre on Thai Schools English.
Khruu Khem had written out clear instructions on the computer and all the children copied these instructions out in order to practice, and be able to instruct someone else.
To help further there are instructions below, for any of the Huay Sai Students who wish to sign up to the Moodle Learning Centre and practise their English language with the lessons and quizzes to be found there.
Each week we will add more exercises for you to try.
If you have any ideas for things you particularly want to practise and learn, please tell Khun John when he visits your school.
- Click on this link
- In the new window click on the Moodle tab.
- On the right hand side of the new page , click on “log-in”
- Look at “Is this your first time here?”
- In line number 1 you will find a link “new account“, click on this link.
- First enter your username. So that we will know who you are, please use your nickname
- Then enter a password. Your password must have at least 1 number, 1 capital letter, 1 small letter, and 1 symbol. Your password must have at least 8 characters. For example; 2Ab!addm, this has all the characters you need and a total of 8, so it is good; 2Ab! , this has all the characters you need but only has a total of 4, so this will not work; 2ab!5g5g5g5g, this has all the characters you need and a total of 12, so this one is good.
- Then enter your e mail address.
- Then enter your email address again
- Then enter your first name
- Then enter your family name
- Then enter the name of your nearest town or city
- Then enter your country
- Then click on “create my new account”
- You will then receive an e mail from moodle. So check your email Inbox
- Click on the link in the email
- You can now go to the top right hand corner of the Moodle page and click log-in
- Enter your username and password
- You can now click and work on any of the available courses.
I hope this helps you all

First, many apologies for a long time with no new material on this website. Due to other commitments along with internet access problems I have been unable to work on this site.
Hopefully now that I once more have internet at my office and am now able to reserve time for this project, the site will now grow and improve once more.
And heres a small starter. Recently we have been teaching Months , Days and Colours to the children at Stratton House Childrens Home, Chiang Mai.
Please use this links to see the children in action and practise along with them.
You can also check your pronunciation by watching the last 2 videos where you will see me speaking the days and then months.

Please listen to the passage and answer the questions.

Valentines day.
Nowadays most people see Valentines Day as a day to celebrate love between partners, or to declare your love for someone you would like to be your partner.
The day was originally named in honour of St Valentine.
The history is vague, but the most reliable information points to a Christian Bishop, who lived in Rome around 270 a.d(christian years).
Bishop Valentine is known to have defied the Roman emperor, Claudius II, over a law banning marriage for young men that he wanted as soldiers.
Because of his defiance Bishop valentine was executed on 14th february.
He is said to have formed a friendship with the daughter of his jailer. The girl visited him many times before the execution and helped to keep his spirits up.
The Bishop is said to have left a note for the girl, thanking her for her friendship and loyalty, and signed the note, ‘from your Valentine’
As a revered Christian Bishop, it is almost certain that Bishop Valentine would want people to be celebrating just that, the love of friendship.
Not surprisingly , gossip had placed more on the relationship between the Bishop and the girl and so, many people tagged him as the Patron Saint of Lovers.
This became more established in the 14th century,(christian years), in England, where the writer, Geoffrey Chaucer, is credited as officially associating the day with romantic love.
This authors belief is, like many in Thailand, that it should be a day to think of all loved ones, be they partners, family or friends.
It can be that the love between good friends can be much stronger and longer lasting then romantic love.
So when Valentines Day comes again next year, think of all of those special to you and celebrate the love they make you feel.

In total there were 53 students from Huay Sai school who attended the weekend camp at a very reasonable cost of 100 baht each.
The weekend kicked off with us all meeting at Huay Sai School at 8.30 on Saturday morning. As well as myself there were also 2 Dutch ladies, both living in Huay Sai and an English Lady from a village nearby to the school, all going along as volunteer English language trainers.
We squeezed as many of the students as we could into our bus to help with the transport and headed off to the venue.
