Here are the best video clips of your practise speaking in class today. For those who do not appear; first of all sorry to Pookie who I think had the clearest English speaking out of the whole class. Next week you will be the first to be filmed.
Also Mon, unfortunately the camera did not film properly at your turn. You did well, but next time maybe try reading from your notebook. because you had to look over at the computer screen your speaking was not smooth.
To all the others who do not appear, it is because you speak too quietly and the camera does not hear you. I think you all did ok with your pronunciation, but you need to work on your confidence.
Video 1 …Pen
Pen, you were very good but maybe a little louder would be good:)
Video 2…..Doi
What can I say? Doi, that was excellent!
Video 3…..Non
Non, your pronunciation is good, your voice level is good but next time I would like to see you do it without everyone else telling you what to say. I think you are very capable of doing it without any help, but maybe a little shy.
Well done everyone and keep practising.
Today (31-08-2010) , in Mattayom 1 we discussed how you get started with the Moodle Learning Centre on Thai Schools English.
Khruu Khem had written out clear instructions on the computer and all the children copied these instructions out in order to practice, and be able to instruct someone else.
To help further there are instructions below, for any of the Huay Sai Students who wish to sign up to the Moodle Learning Centre and practise their English language with the lessons and quizzes to be found there.
Each week we will add more exercises for you to try.
If you have any ideas for things you particularly want to practise and learn, please tell Khun John when he visits your school.
- Click on this link
- In the new window click on the Moodle tab.
- On the right hand side of the new page , click on “log-in”
- Look at “Is this your first time here?”
- In line number 1 you will find a link “new account“, click on this link.
- First enter your username. So that we will know who you are, please use your nickname
- Then enter a password. Your password must have at least 1 number, 1 capital letter, 1 small letter, and 1 symbol. Your password must have at least 8 characters. For example; 2Ab!addm, this has all the characters you need and a total of 8, so it is good; 2Ab! , this has all the characters you need but only has a total of 4, so this will not work; 2ab!5g5g5g5g, this has all the characters you need and a total of 12, so this one is good.
- Then enter your e mail address.
- Then enter your email address again
- Then enter your first name
- Then enter your family name
- Then enter the name of your nearest town or city
- Then enter your country
- Then click on “create my new account”
- You will then receive an e mail from moodle. So check your email Inbox
- Click on the link in the email
- You can now go to the top right hand corner of the Moodle page and click log-in
- Enter your username and password
- You can now click and work on any of the available courses.
I hope this helps you all
Ok, now I would like all students in Mattayom 1 to visit the Moodle page on thaischoolsenglish.
Click on “create an account” and fill in the form.
Then you can “log-in” and try the first lesson that I have made for you…Mattayom 1 Basic Introduction

So its Tuesday again and I came to Huay Sai School for my 2nd lesson with Mattayom 1. Khruu Khem was not here today because she has travelled down to Bangkok for an AUA English teaching conference. Maybe the kids forgot, or maybe they were too nervous with Khruu Khem being absent, but 9 0′clock came and went and no pupils arrived.
Whilst I waited a couple of Mattayom 2 students came to chat a little, including Frank, who I know from last years English Camp.
Khruu Khems room was locked so I set up in the classroom next door and waited a little longer.
More boys from Mattayom 2 turned up and I showed them the work I had planned for Mattayom 1.
In the end, I was joined by the 3 boys from Mattayom 2, Non, Mon and New.
We did some practise speaking English using, the draft written by Tai from Stratton House;
which was English sound written using the Thai alphabet.

One boy, Toon, from Mattayom 2 remained, which helped to be able to do some pair work , where the boys practised simple introduction conversation.
In the shortened time we had I thought they all did very well.
Take a look at your videos boys; don’t worry that its not perfect, with practise you will get better and better.
Congratulations to Mon who I think has a very good understanding of English at this level and who’s speaking was very good to.

See you all again next week. And girls, please come too:)
Hello again.

You can use this link to get to the log in page and create your account.
Then you will be able to use the Moodle anytime and practise your English by following the courses.
I hope you find this useful to your English language learning.

Tuesday 8th of August 2010 saw the first ‘in class’ help with learning English language, from The Stratton ABC Foundation.
As Foundation Director, I, Mr John Cope, visited the school to assist with teaching basic introductory conversation to Mattayom 1.
Although some of the children were a little nervous to begin with, the relaxed atmosphere in the classrom soon led to a very satisfactory ‘first’ lesson.
I will be assisting Mattayom 1 every week for some period to come and hope we can build on this good start.
Students, please remember what we did in class. Later in the week you will find lessons on this website, all to do with what we spoke about. Also, those of you who are a little shy, please don’t be. Don’t worry about getting everything right first time. To try is the most important and I will help you get it right.
Try watching the practice videos already on the site. Listen carefully and watch how the words are pronounced.
Good luck and I will see you next week.
For more photos please visit our photobucket album here. Sorry Non, you closed your eyes, we will get better photos next time.
First, many apologies for a long time with no new material on this website. Due to other commitments along with internet access problems I have been unable to work on this site.
Hopefully now that I once more have internet at my office and am now able to reserve time for this project, the site will now grow and improve once more.
And heres a small starter. Recently we have been teaching Months , Days and Colours to the children at Stratton House Childrens Home, Chiang Mai.
Please use this links to see the children in action and practise along with them.
You can also check your pronunciation by watching the last 2 videos where you will see me speaking the days and then months.
Jor, 12 years old leads the class.
Jor leads the class again.
May, 11years old, leads the class.
Tai, 12 years old, leads the class.

On February 14th, last month, we celebrated Valentines Day.
Please listen to the passage and answer the questions.

Valentines day.
Nowadays most people see Valentines Day as a day to celebrate love between partners, or to declare your love for someone you would like to be your partner.
The day was originally named in honour of St Valentine.
The history is vague, but the most reliable information points to a Christian Bishop, who lived in Rome around 270 a.d(christian years).
Bishop Valentine is known to have defied the Roman emperor, Claudius II, over a law banning marriage for young men that he wanted as soldiers.
Because of his defiance Bishop valentine was executed on 14th february.
He is said to have formed a friendship with the daughter of his jailer. The girl visited him many times before the execution and helped to keep his spirits up.
The Bishop is said to have left a note for the girl, thanking her for her friendship and loyalty, and signed the note, ‘from your Valentine’
As a revered Christian Bishop, it is almost certain that Bishop Valentine would want people to be celebrating just that, the love of friendship.
Not surprisingly , gossip had placed more on the relationship between the Bishop and the girl and so, many people tagged him as the Patron Saint of Lovers.
This became more established in the 14th century,(christian years), in England, where the writer, Geoffrey Chaucer, is credited as officially associating the day with romantic love.
This authors belief is, like many in Thailand, that it should be a day to think of all loved ones, be they partners, family or friends.
It can be that the love between good friends can be much stronger and longer lasting then romantic love.
So when Valentines Day comes again next year, think of all of those special to you and celebrate the love they make you feel.
